Process OLAP Cube

Explanation

This activity is used to process the target OLAP cube. The activity will also make sure that Company Group information is transferred to the data warehouse, while all other information in the data warehouse is untouched.

Some Typical Cases:

• There is a need to analyze groups of companies without defining any financials KPIs. In this case it is only needed to define KPI Company Group information and then process the cube.
• The Run ETL activity has been used to update the Data Warehouse with new data and processing of the OLAP cube is needed before continuing with analysis work with fresh information.
• The necessary transactions and basic data such as accounts, code parts, accounting structures etc have already been transferred to the Data Warehouse but there is still a need to modify the KPI Company Group information and to process the cube. Financial KPIs that previously have been published to the cube will still be available in the cube. Newly created/modified Financial KPIs will not be published to the cube by this activity.

Prerequisites

This activity has the following prerequisites:

• Configuration Settings must have been done in order to define database and servers.
• KPI Company Group information must have been defined if this information is to be used in the target OLAP cube.
• The target OLAP cube header must have been defined.

It is for this case not necessary to have any Company Groups connected to the cube, since the purpose is only to process the cube, not to update it with new/modified KPI measures.

System Effects

As a result of this activity:

• The target OLAP cube will be updated with the latest basic and transactional data and will also contain previously published Financial KPI Definitions. The cube can now be used for analysis purposes or it can be further updated with new or modified Financial KPI Definitions before starting the analysis.
• The target OLAP cube can be opened and be analyzed with respect to company groups using existing cube measures, dimensions and hierarchies.

Procedure

To perform this activity,

1. Open the OLAP Cube Set Up window.
2. Right-click and select Process Cube.
3. Open e.g. MS Excel 2013 and connect to the Analysis Services cube and start to analyze.
