This activity is used to set-up information related to the target OLAP cube.
Each cube has a unique identity that refers to a specific target OLAP cube in a specific cube database on the SSAS server defined in the Configuration Settings window. The OLAP Cube Name should refer to a cube that is supported by the BI Analysis Package and that thus has been deployed when installing the BI Analysis Package. It is however possible to use another OLAP cube on the same SSAS server as target. This might be the case if it is necessary to test Financial KPI definitions in a cube before publishing the definitions to the main cube. E.g. the ordinary OLAP cube defined during installation of the BI Analysis Package can easily (on the MS SQL Server side) be duplicated under another name (in a separate cube database) and the cube can be processed with the same data as the main cube, i.e. from the current IFS instance that has been setup as the source for the BI Analysis Package installation.
By default a cube definition is active, meaning that all cube related definitions will be transferred to the SQL Server database when performing validation and processing options. If a cube definition is only used for test it is recommended to set the cube as not active as soon as the testing is done to avoid transfer by mistake.
The OLAP Database Name and the OLAP Cube Name refers to the OLAP cube and this information has to be provided by someone. The alternative is trying to use the List of Values, which can work if SQL Server AMO and ADOMD in Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Feature Pack is downloaded to the client machine. However List of Values will show all available cube databases on the SSAS server, so it is still important to know which one to choose.
For a cube it is also necessary to set up the following information:
